Mrs Mason and Mrs Kemp run weekly Community Learning Sessions.
Every Friday morning 8 children from Years 1-6 go on a trip somewhere in the local area. We understand that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. We learn important life skills such as money management, cooking, road safety, speaking and listening skills, following instructions,  fine and gross motor skills and most important of all friendship skills.
Fab Club

The children in FAB Club came up with our name which stands for Fantastic And Brilliant – because that’s what we are!
FAB Club is a social skills group that runs every Wednesday. Through games, talk and role play we learn about social skills and how to make the right choices both inside the classroom and out.

The sessions are run by Mrs Mason and our Autism Lead Practitioner – Mrs Betteridge.

Chill & Spill

Any pupil who attends FAB Club is invited to Chill and Spill. Sessions run every Thursday lunch time. Pupils eat together, re enforcing table manners and afterwards we play games or take time to talk about our week. Sessions are led by Mrs Mason and Mrs Betteridge.

Rhythm Time

The Rhythm Time company come in to school weekly for a term at a time to support our younger pupils who may need additional help with skills such as communication, listening and following instructions.
Sessions last half an hour and are always lots of fun and filled with singing and lots of opportunities to play a range of instruments.

We also run sessions for younger siblings on a Wednesday afternoon. Gross Motor Skills Group Mrs Peace is our Gross Motor Skills leader. Every Wednesday morning, Mrs Peace and her group, take over the hall and use a range of exciting PE equipment to work on those important gross motor skills such as co-ordination, balance, throwing and catching and ball control. The sessions are always lots of fun.
Peer Tutoring Peer Tutoring works by pairing upper KS2 children with KS1 pupils. High Frequency words are taught to the younger children and the children are then tested on what they remember.

The benefit of this intervention is that KS1 pupils get to boost the number of words that they can read and KS2 pupils grow in confidence as they help younger pupils to learn new strategies for reading sight words.
PrecisionTeachingill880 Precision Teaching is a great intervention for helping pupils to learn sight words. It uses the strategy of repetition and over learning.

Children usually learn 5 words at a time (2 which the children will already know).

Results from this intervention are very good.

Direct Phonics Direct phonics is a programme that we use in lower KS2.

The Direct Phonics Programme is taught 3 times a week for approx. 15 minutes using the Direct Instruction approach.
This is a structured, systematic multi-sensory programme that teaches phonics in the context of reading and writing.
The teaching method follows a routine of 'model-lead-check' that ensures success with new learning. Each lesson has the same predictable pattern.
Cued Spelling This intervention uses a multisensory approach to teaching spellings.

At Hollywood we use this intervention with our upper KS2 pupils.

Children work in pairs. One pupil is a ‘speller’ and the other is a ‘helper’.

Staff teach children a range of cues to remember how to spell a word – E.g. highlighting the difficult part, using colour, drawing boxes around a word to remember its shape etc…

Spellers pick 5 words that they would like to learn and with the support of their ‘helper’ children choose their own methods to learn the spelling.

This intervention runs 3 times a week
